Before Love Was a Word

Wil Hodge / Ashley Harris

Long ago and far away
In a distant time and place
There was peace and mercy
There was hope and grace
Coming from the darkness
Before a sound was heard
Love was there before love was a word

Before the stars were hung
Before the sun could shine
Before oceans gleamed
Before mountains climbed
Before we walked the earth
And breathed it’s perfect air
Love was there before love was a word

A tiny newborn finger
In the palm of mother’s hand
Stirs the soul to believe
There’s a grand and holy plan
That speaks of things to come
Of who we are and what we were
Love was there before love was a word

Before our hearts believed
Before we fell from grace
Before lonely roads
Before grief and pain
Before we knew of sin
And how His love could save
There was faith, before love was a word

And isn’t it amazing
That we can rise when we fall
And isn’t it a blessing
That love exists at all

Before the stars were hung
Before the sun could shine
Before oceans gleamed
Before mountains climbed
Before we walked the earth
And breathed it’s perfect air
Love was there before love was a word
Love was there before love was a word
